“A harrowing and hilarious examination of addiction and our obsession with celebrity. A consummate performer, Rebecca’s writing is razor sharp.”

—Haley McGee, Olivier Award Nominee

When a rockstar crashes the backstage party at a Shakespeare Festival, a thrill-seeking young actor is set on a path of self-reckoning. A provocative blend of truth and fiction, Discount Dave and The Fix is a suspenseful, hilarious and harrowing examination of our obsession with celebrity, how addiction can bury our wounds, and what it takes to heal.

Having made its world premiere at the Edmonton Fringe Festival in August of 2024, Discount Dave and the Fix is a deeply personal, darkly hilarious, and provocative new solo performance that aims straight for the gut. Written and performed by Rebecca Auerbach, directed and dramaturged by Aviva Armour-Ostroff, the play was developed through the generous support of The Ontario Arts Council, Nightwood Theatre, Studio 180, and Theatre Aquarius. In 2024, Discount Dave and The Fix earned the Cayle Chernin Award for Theatre Development, then went into further development and a sold-out run for The Vault Creation Lab’s inaugural season in the spring of 2025. Inspired by true events, this gripping new piece is currently being adapted into a 3-episode narrative podcast for CBC.
